Morning Dew

My paintings take a contemporary look at the East Coast landscape, particularly the Washington, D.C., area. Inspiration often finds me near the Potomac River, the rolling Virginia countryside, or in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains.

My oil-on-canvas paintings typically begin with a series of sketches and photographs -- often taken at dawn or dusk--when the light is at its most ethereal and the mood is serene. Back in my studio, I attempt to capture the sense of mystery these landscapes evoke through multiple layers of paint, beginning with an underpainting followed by several thin layers of paint, then dry brushing, and typically several layers of glaze.
